  • Taylor Barnes (born in 1955 in Los Angeles, California - )

Working in a genre described as "magical realism", Taylor is known for his works that are semi-realistic while intriguing in their symbolic and spiritual elements. She grew up surfing in Southern California and her art is rooted in the natural environment, as well as the different cultures, which intersect in Los Angeles. Current work is based on his recent relocation to the Montagne Noire in southern France. The area's forests and history have inspired work that integrates subconscious symbolism with evocative and catalytic visual cues.

Taylor combines images into a series of ideas which can include paint, digital or written elements, to explore many viewpoints of a concept. At the heart of his work are the manipulation of paint, the making of marks and his training as a visual artist.

BFA in Painting from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
    • In 1986, she established her studio in Venice Beach as a painter/illustrator, graphic designer, writer and editor.
    • 1987, after a successful career as a magazine art director, Taylor founded L'Image Graphics, an award-winning art publishing company, in Los Angeles.
    • 2013, Taylor became the founder and editor of 3.1 Venice Magazine, covering art and culture in Venice Beach, CA.
    • 2021, Taylor moves to Saissac, France to launch a studio/artist residency program, 3.1 Art. This residency program will mentor creatives and foster the community of artists, writers and musicians.

Taylor said of this new venture, “The observation of nature, combined with the study of history, creates the intersections that inspire my work. Saissac, a medieval village in the Montagne Noire, provides me with the perfect inspiration. Hopefully it will do the same for others.
