Meeting with a Cathar by Joshua Elias

  • (b. 1957 Chicago, Illinois) - Abstract artist Joshua is known for his work containing both recognizable and unrecognizable otherworldly figures set in mysterious landscapes.

    Elias' pure oil paintings illustrate his lifelong interest in the interstitial plane.

    After earning a BFA at San Diego State University, her film and theater studies shifted to studio oil painting at Otis Parsons in Los Angeles.

    Joshua discovers recurring spiritual locations - a set visual framework for the staging of ancient myths.

    His holdings include:

    - Writers' retreat in Iceland in 2016/2017.

    - Exhibition of tectonic works called Rock Light.

    A publication of Rock Light from Lumen Press, combining poetry and visual art, was published in 2018. President Gudni of Iceland purchased one of these original works, Skin of the Sea, now on display at the State House outside Reykjavik.

    - Artist residency at 3.1, Saissac, in the Montagne Noire. Publication of the book to follow in 2023.

    The artist works daily in his art studio at the Brewery Arts Complex in Los Angeles.
