Raphaëlle Soleil chose as artist name Sol.R which, in phonetics, includes the first 3 letters of her family name and the first letter of her first name.
Born in 1987 in Normandy, she lived all her childhood and her life as a young adult in the south of France. In 2005 she obtained a baccalaureate in an artistic sector in Marseille and continued her career with a BTS and a higher diploma in industrial design. On leaving her studies, she joined an architecture and design agency in Paris, where she learned the profession of interior designer, which she practiced for 10 years. During this period, his profession will occupy an important place and the drawing will be put aside. In 2020, she resumes her brushes and pencils.
His influences come from different horizons such as comics, with the works of Moebius and Bati (Crystal Majeur, Altor), Van Hamme (Thorgal) or Jodorowski (Alef-Thau); but also from the Street Art scene with the works of Seth, and Hayao Miyazaki's animated films (Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke). Her colorful choices are also influenced by her job as an interior designer and by her primary source of inspiration: nature.
Her techniques are just as varied: gouaches, colored inks, Indian ink, colored pencils, spray paint, acrylics, which she applies to a paper support. His works can be sometimes figurative, sometimes abstract.
She wants to make us feel emotions and the notion of movement by creating visual sensations. In short, she seeks to materialize the invisible.
